- Hemophillia (Bleeding Disease)
- SYMPTOMS. Hemophillia is a bleeding disease that produces profuse bleeding
- from wounds or minor cuts. Bleeding may also begin in the gastrointestinal
- tract, under the skin, in the gums and in the joints and muscles. Stiffness
- in the joints may accompany bleeding in the joints and muscles.
- CAUSES. Hemophillia is an inherited disorder which is passed on to the male
- by the female. The victim has an impaired ability of the blood to clot. This
- is due to a deficiency of factor VIII, which is a blood substance that is
- needed for coagulation.
- TREATMENT. The missing blood factor must be replaced through treatment.
- .The victim may need a blood transfusion if the bleeding has been serious.
- .The victim should carry a wallet card advising of this disorder.
